What we’re thinking

Growth over the last few centuries has been spectacular. The image above shows this. From the time Adam Smith wrote his important “The Wealth of Nations” in 1776 to recent years, the GDP of England has risen from £14.69 million to over £1.6 trillion! A story that is repeated across economies.

Understanding this growth came mainly from studying manufacturing, and its underlying value-in-exchange model. Such thinking has successfully driven innovation and therefore growth. We make products, embed value, trade and exchange; grow.

Why this matters

We can not doubt the past success of value-in-exchange thinking. Bare its roots in manufacturing the best for modern world that is service oriented? Could that partially explain the recent slow down in growth?
