The idea
The progress diamond is a tool used to visualise the relationship between progress sought and progress offered.
It sits in the strategic layer of the progress economy. Signifying its importance in the way a progress helper positions their progress proposition.
The progress diamond
The relationship between progress sought by a seeker and that offered by a helper is fundamental to exploiting the progress economy.
As helpers we need to fully understand the progress journey of a seeker. This means knowing the breadth – the functional, non-functional and contextual elements – of both the:
Ideally progress offered should match progress sought. This entails our offering to be customisable to match individual seeker’s progress sought.
Often it is more practical to segment seekers on their progress sought (and sometimes additionally on their progress origin) in an effort to find groupings of seekers who are prepared to compromise their individual progress journeys to a more generic version whilst still making acceptable progress (co-creating sufficient value). In return the seeker gets lowered progress hurdles. Most often it is the equitable exchange hurdle that is lowered through segmentation.
A helper can then craft their progress offered around X approaches. These are to offer:
- a match to progress sought
- less progress than sought
- more progress than sought
- a core minimum progress plus other progress sought that is latent
Lets look at each of these approaches in turn.
